TINGKAT PENGETAHUAN, PERSEPSI, DAN SIKAP PENGUNJUNG APOTEK KEMANTREN TENTANG OBAT SIRUP YANG MENGANDUNG CEMARAN ETILEN GLIKOL DAN DIETILEN GLIKOL

Syrup is an oral solution that contains high levels of sucrose or other sugars
(simple syrup is a syrup that is almost saturated with sucrose). The increasing
number of cases of syrup which causes sharp acute kidney failure in children,
especially toddlers, has been received by the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) and
the Pediatric Association (IDI) since the end of August 2022. A total of 206 cases
were reported from 20 provinces with a mortality rate reaching 48% as of October
18 2022. Ethylene Glycol (EG) and Diethylene Glycol (DEG) are chemicals that
can be toxic if they exceed the levels determined by WHO, which can result in
digestive disorders up to the worst, namely acute kidney failure. Ethylene Glycol
and Diethylene Glycol are often used as solvents in industry, especially the
pharmaceutical industry. This research aims to determine the level of knowledge,
perceptions and attitudes of visitors to the Kemantren Pharmacy regarding syrup
medicines containing Ethylene Glycol and Diethylene Glycol contamination. This
research method uses quantitative descriptive methods. The sample in this study
were visitors to the Kemantren Pharmacy who met the inclusion and exclusion
criteria. The sample consisted of 70 people. The sampling technique in this research
used purposive sampling. The method of collecting data is by using a questionnaire
sheet which is filled in by the respondent himself. The results of the research were
good level of knowledge 70%, sufficient knowledge 19%, poor knowledge 11%.
Good perception 97%, fair perception 3%, poor perception 0%. Good attitude 94%,
fair attitude 6%, poor attitude 0%. It can be concluded that the level of knowledge,
perception and attitudes of visitors to the Kemantren pharmacy regarding syrup
medicines containing ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol contamination are in
the good category.
